2022 has been a year of ups and downs, but also a year where the SabrinasReach4Life Committee and volunteers have forged stronger connections and partnerships with others in our community, helped those who needed our support as bereaved by suicide, others who needed guidance to navigate the health system, some who needed a referral to other support services, and many who just wanted to speak with someone with a lived experience. We have also had the privilege to contribute to future national policy and program design in Suicide prevention and universal aftercare. We are grateful for the recognition and value we bring to help save lives, even in a small way.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank our generous fundraisers who help fund the Sabrina J Memorial Scholarship at CDU awarded to students studying Psychology or Social Work. So far one recipient is now a practicing Clinical Psychologist in a Darwin practice with the second graduating in the same field next year. A big thank you to all our sponsors who supported our annual World Suicide Prevention Day event, which was once again was a resounding success.
This time of year can be particularly difficult for many who have lost loved ones. If you know someone who might be struggling, please reach out to them and encourage them to seek support if they need it, by contacting their GP, Lifeline (13 1114), Beyond Blue (1300 224 636) or Standby Support After Suicide (1300 727 247).
Stay safe and we look forward to 2023.
