Mad Snake Cafe was named to honour those with mental health concerns or who haven’t always fitted in. Mad Snake Cafe provides a safe, friendly place for people to connect with others in the community. Sam Snell StandBy Support After Suicide~ Regional Coordinator – StandBy Northern Territory. Samantha is a Darwin local of 20+ years and is the Regional Coordinator for StandBy Support After Suicide. Sam has previously served in the Royal Australian Navy for 7 years from 2008-2015 and spent the duration of her service in Darwin on patrol boats. She has a background in mental health and has worked in the veteran space in Darwin since 2020 and is the Secretary of the Council of Australian Veterans (Darwin Branch) Inc. |

8:45am | Introductory Welcome ~ Forum Host and Chair, Sabrina’s Reach4Life Lidia Di Lembo~ After losing her daughter to suicide in 2017, Lidia and husband Michael founded the local charity, SabrinasReach4Life. The foundation’s purpose is actively collaborate with others to help reduce suicide deaths in our community, support those who are impacted by suicide loss and advocate for better access to services for those who experience mental distress, with a lived experience lens. Lidia is involved in many forums at a national and local level, dedicated to suicide prevention and postvention, including member of the Suicide Prevention Australia NT Committee & Lived Experience Panel; Co-Chair of Postvention Australia; Lived Experience Panel with Roses in the Ocean. Lidia believes that the Forum is an important annual event that brings people together to connect, to listen, learn and have a better understanding in how we can all reduce suicide in our community. |

How Can We Better Support Each Other Peter Susanto ~ 2024 NT Young Australian of the Year ~ Medical Student and Community Volunteer In 2022, he started a Bachelor of Clinical Science at Charles Darwin University on his way to a career in medicine, aged just 15. He was also the first Territorian to represent Australia in the International Brain Bee Olympiad, a competition about the brain and neuroscience, and came third in the world. Peter Susanto (OH 2021) has never under-estimated the value of hard work. Neither has he overlooked the importance of remaining humble and helping the people around him. Those traits and his commitment to helping to build strong and inclusive communities in his hometown of Darwin. |

Throughout her career she has focused on health for the community having led several organisations focused on education, cancer control and suicide prevention. She has expertise in communications, education and organisational development. |
10.15am | Keynote Address ~ NT Suicide Prevention Strategic Framework Implementation Plan 2023-38 Keeping Everyone Safe Yvette Nicholls ~ A/g Executive Director Mental Health Alcohol & Other Drugs, Commissioning and Systems improvement with NT Health ~ NT Government. Yvette’s qualifications are in Psychology and Business and her passion is leading teams to achieve best practice health and wellbeing outcomes for Territorians. Yvette has worked across many roles since arriving in Darwin 17 years ago. Spanning from alcohol and other drug rehabilitation, behavioural education, forensic disability and offender development, child wellbeing and national redress and suicide prevention. |

This journey has fueled his passion for creating systems and services that are not only supportive but also empowering for individuals with lived experience. |

11:40am | Keynote Address ~ Faith and Spirituality - Protective Factors in Suicide Prevention and Psychological Wellbeing Jenna Richard ~ Clinical Psychologist, has experience working with a diverse range of people in a wide variety of contexts, from capital cities, rural regions, and very remote Aboriginal communities, plus amazing seasons living and travelling overseas. Jenna has called the NT home since 2011 and has enjoyed learning Australian Kriol, about Top End cultures, and getting involved in the local community. Jenna's current adventure is as the Director of Psych Plus Services, a Darwin based mental health service that offers free suicide prevention support to individuals at increased risk of suicide, funded through Short Term Therapies program of the NT PHN. |

Having worked in Primary Health Organisations in New Zealand, Ali has a wealth of experience supporting the delivery of primary health care services so that people experience their best health and wellbeing. Ali is responsible for leading our strategy and planning functions and has executive oversight of all commissioning activities at NT PHN. Ali is a strong advocate for health provision in the Northern Territory and for addressing health inequity, and often represents NT PHN in various regional and national forums to ensure we are participating in the collective voice for all people in the NT. |

Workshop 3 | Happiness & Resilience Facilitator ~ Yvette Nicholls ~ A/g Executive Director Mental Health Alcohol & Other Drugs, NT Dept of Health Description ~ Through this session understanding and building resilience through Positive Psychology will be explored by examining ‘happiness’ – how to achieve it and how it can impact our lives. This workshop will provides skills and strategies to build wellbeing and happiness in order to cope with challenges, disappointment and difficult times in life and to help enjoy life despite the challenges. Positive Psychology is subject to the rigours of scientific experimentation and endorsement, suggesting that the phenomena discovered are reliable and repeatable (Lewis 2011). | ||||
