Young Healthy Minds Award for 12 to 25 yrs olds
About...
This award is intended to be very different from other awards focussed on achievement, leadership or mental health alone. It is about storytelling to help reduce stigma of suicide and mental unwellness, kindness, compassion, empowerment for those who suffer or have suffered from some form of adversity and recognition of others who help those struggling.
The purpose is to encourage young people to share their story of their struggles or a distressful situation in their life, and how they coped or who helped them, including mental illness or situational crisis, as a way of giving hope to other young people who might be experiencing similar behaviours or situations. It is also for an award with a category for a young person to nominate someone in their life who has helped them through a difficult period or situation so that it also highlights to others in our community to be kind, compassionate and look out for one another.
It could also be a tool to help build resilience and capacity, promote connections and friendships.
